“Alexander’s command of the issues facing the next Congress impressed us. So did her background as a teacher in HISD [sic] and fighter for causes near to the hearts of Democratic primary voters, as when she told us she’d make voting rights a top priority. ‘We have to make some progress in protecting our voting rights,’ she said. ‘So that would be the number one priority, because we can’t have anything else if we don’t have a right to vote.’”

Fighting for Opportunities for Families to Thrive
Reproductive Rights & People’s Wellness
Codify Roe v. Wade to ensure people have access to reproductive healthcare.
Reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA).
Strongly oppose laws that make Texans seeking an abortion subject to vigilantes.
Advocate for single-payer system so health care is accessible for all families
Accessibility
Hold regular town hall meetings.
Routinely visit communities throughout the district.
Accessible to civic groups and press.
Worker’s rights
Always support the right of employees to join a union.
Strongly back up for $15 minimum wage.
Support service workers seeking to unionize.
Commitment to Infrastructure
Advocate to make the Enhanced Earned Income Credit permanent.
Oppose expansion of I-45 that will harm Black and Brown communities and working class residents.
Assert that housing and affordable rents are a universal right.
Democracy and human rights
Back legislation to fortify voting rights to require DOJ pre-clearance of state voting practices and public notification of changes.
Update the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to prohibit discrimination based on sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity in public accommodations.

Providing pathways to citizenship to keep families intact.
Building Up Community
Education
Increase funding for public schools.
Demand academic freedom and the accurate teaching of history the classroom.
Support student loan forgiveness and expansion of Pell Grants.
Public Safety
Support ending the gun show loophole and expand background checks.
Press for common-sense legislation for gun safety to protect schools, houses of worship, and other public spaces.
Work to bridge communities with police to address crime and the causes of crime.
Marijuana legalization
Favor legalization of cannabis.
Support commuting of sentences for those imprisoned for solely marijuana use or possession of small quantities.
Climate Change
Support diversification of energy sources in Texas to ensure we keep pace with the future.
Push for quality jobs aligned with changing environmental needs.
Bolster resources to address flooding mitigation and the effects of the climate crisis on infrastructure, such as transportation and education.
All of the above issues must get the attention they deserve to transform real concerns from families to the halls of Congress with persistence, ferocity, and a thoughtful approach. I pledge to be the transparent public servant you deserve in TX-38. I will not accept donations from corporate PACs, because I am beholden to the people.
